Urea coordinated titanium trichloride [Ti.sup.III][[OC(NH)2].sub.6][Cl.sub.3]: A single molecular precursor yielding highly visible light responsive Ti[O.sub.2] nanocrystallites
Article Abstract:
A coordination complex, [Ti.sup.III][[OC(NH)].sub.6][Cl.sub.3], is first synthesized by reacting hot alcoholic solutions of Ti[Cl.sub.3] and urea which was subsequently employed as a molecular precursor for nanocrystalline Ti[O.sub.2] via thermal decomposition. The powders obtained at 450 and 500 degree Celsius have exhibited improved photocatalytic activities than Degussa P25 in the decoloration of methyl orange solution under visible light irradiation, either at a fixed sample loading weight or at a fixed surface area of the loaded Ti[O.sub.2] powder.

Fluctuation functions in aqueous NaCl and urea
Article Abstract:
Mixing schemes in aqueous NaCl and urea are studied, using fluctuation functions, which provide relative qualitative differences of the amplitude and wavelength of fluctuations in entropy and volume and the entropy-volume cross fluctuations. It is observed that NaCl hydrates 7.5 molecules of H(sub 2)O but leaves the bulk H(sub 2)O away from the hydration shell unperturbed, while urea connects to the hydrogen bond network of H(sub 2)O but retards the degree of fluctuation inherent in H(sub 2)O.

Aqueous urea solutions: Structure, energetics and urea aggregation
Article Abstract:
Molecular dynamics simulations for a wide range of urea concentrations and temperatures are carried out to study the structure and energies of aqueous urea solutions. It is suggested that the main driving force for protein denaturation are urea and protein.
